Quick Update

Atomium in Brussels, capital of Belgium and Europe

In light of yesterday’s events in Brussels I received about a dozen of kind e-mails asking if I am okay and wether I’m safe. That’s why I wanted to put out a short post telling you guys that I am, in fact, good and felt safe at all times yesterday, even though I work close to Parliament and I commute past the bombed metro. My family and friends are safe too, although the tragedy left a strong impression on us all.

While the attacks on Brussels airport and the Brussels metro cannot reasonably be explained by any rational person, they sadly are a part of our current reality. However, I hope we can all move forward from the recent events with a positive view of the future. Giving in to the negative message of hatred that these attacks try to promote, is not in the best interest of the healing process our society needs.

My thoughts are with the victims and families of those affected by this tragedy. And I would like to thank the military, police and medical responders that did an admirable job yesterday. I saw your selfless efforts and dedication first-hand from the safety of my office.

Thank you to everyone who reached out to me, it’s kindly appreciated.

  1. Hi NMW,

A colleague is having surgery today and one is still unaccounted for. We all cross our fingers and hope for the best. Good to hear you are safe and well!

    Rgds – mark

    1. Mark,

I’m sorry to hear that. I hope your colleagues pulled through okay?

      Best wishes,
      NMW

  2. I am Spanish and I still remember the shock when the bombs in Madrid in 2004, about 200 deaths in train and metro at rush hour. How defenceless we, normal citizens, are. Non-sense act of hate.

All my support to belgians, as well as those that suffered these terrorist attacks before in France, UK, USA, etc. We have the same problem. We all are different, but we all share the same values. It is not because of what we do, it is what we are.

    All the best.

    1. Daninave,

The Spanish, British, French, Americans, etc. (not to mention a whole bunch of non-Western countries!) all have experienced similar attacks in the past few years. As individuals we’re indeed defenseless against such acts of hatred, but as a society we can send very strong signals by coming together and sticking to our values.

Thank you for your comment – It puts things into perspective.

      Best wishes,
      NMW

    1. Thanks, Team! All is well again and life in Brussels has slowly normalised again.

  3. I’m happy to hear that you and your family are ok. This or any attack are so sad. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. It’s so sad that we live in a world with so many evil people who only look to do harm.

    1. IH,

It only takes a few individuals to wreak havoc, so we shouldn’t let them dictate our lives through fear even though the attacks are horrible for the people involved.

      Thank you for your concerns,
      NMW
